The Slade family have been undertakers / funeral directors in Cirencester since the 1940's. It started with Albert Slade (Bert) . He was an apprentice to Frederick Packer and with his friend Michael Smith , F J Packer Slade and Smith was formed.
Mr Packer retired in 1961 and Mr Smith in 1971 leaving Mr Slade to continue. The name was altered slightly to Packer and Slade. In 1992 he decided to retire and Packer and Slade was sold to the Oxford Swindon and Gloucester Co Op, now mid counties Co Op. His son Tim Slade continued to work at the firm until 1998, when the family decided to start again and
A Slade and Son was formed. Since then the family have gone from strength to strength, serving the Cirencester and surrounding Cotswold community.
